We have been growing this small wild chilli with its unique flavour on our farm since 2019.
The gentle drying process using lyophilisation (freeze-drying) guarantees an intense taste experience.
Originally from the north of Peru, close to the Brazilian border, the charapita looks more like a berry than a chilli. However, caution is advised as the heat level is between 8 and 9, making the chilli quite hot. Basically, 1 piece of charapita chilli is enough for an entire dish.
As the flavour is rather fruity at first and the heat sets in a little later, please use sparingly when seasoning.
Hardened or chilli-accustomed people can easily eat the whole fruit, but please be patient as the spiciness develops.
